What is thai massage?
Thai massage is a form of body therapy which has been practised in Thailand for thousands of years. It has its roots in India and also has Chinese influences. On a physical level, it is ideal for gently improving flexibility, aiding recovery from aches and pains caused by exercise or just day to day activity while on an a subtle level, it brings the body into an energetic balance by clearing the energy channels of the body which are called Sen lines. Having a Thai massage is like having a nice long relaxing stretch. During the treatment, the therapist applies pressure which can be gentle and therapeutic or deep depending on preference along the body using the thumbs, palms, forearms and sometimes even the feet, knees and elbows in a rhythmic manner which induces relaxation while also assisting the client into gentle yoga stretches within their ability. The massage is conducted fully clothed on a futon and lasts for an hour, 90 minutes or two hours depending on the needs of the client. |
