Why I do what I do
My route into working as a Bowen and Emmett Therapist has followed an unconventional path, as is the case for many complementary therapists. I believe life experience enriches what I bring to my role as a therapist.
A fascination with the natural world – geographical and biological and the way they interact was sparked at school and has stayed with me throughout my life. After completing a Geography Degree I travelled extensively in Australia and Asia and then worked in Customer Services in Travel and Employment. However I became increasingly aware that the corporate world was not a place I was happy occupying.
I first came across The Bowen Technique in 2006 when a close family relative found her chronic neck pain cleared within just a few sessions – but I was particularly intrigued when simultaneously her annual hay fever also disappeared. By this time, as a mother of 4 children, I had adopted alternative remedies for childhood issues of ear ache, glue ear, eczema and asthma and used homeopathy regularly as a complement to conventional medicine. I was curious in what Bowen had to offer and began researching the technique. I discovered a therapy which treated the body as a whole and respected its capacity for self-healing. In 2009 I completed my training as a Bowen Therapist.
I subsequently trained in The Emmett Technique in 2012 and now blend Emmett with Bowen with great effect.
I believe Bowen has an essential role in health by viewing each person holistically.
Bowen is primarily about wellbeing on a whole range of levels.
Structural changes will often be accompanied by emotional changes.
I am a keen gardener, I run and swim for fitness and love walking on the coast and in the mountains.
I am a member of The Bowen Therapist Professional Register (BTPA), and The Complementary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC). CNHC is the gold stamp accreditation for complementary therapies and is recognised by the NHS.
