empathic, passionate & fun-lovingRichard's acupuncture treatment for the pain from my sacral insufficiency made the difference between not being able to walk and becoming mobile again. I have been having Acupuncture for the last 10 months and it has greatly helped alleviate my symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. I have improved dramatically over a short period of time, which is rare with this illness. You can read more testimonials about Richard here.

Why I do what I do
In 1989 I decided to have a complete change from my office based career & take time (18 months in the end) to travel & work my way through Asia & other parts of the world. On my return I had planned to train to become a chiropractor.
While I was in Australia I was offered a lift by a complete stranger. It was a journey of about 4 hours. The person giving me a lift turned out to be an acupuncturist.
During our 4 journey we quickly discovered that we had complementary medicine as a common interest and 'my acupuncturist driver' cheerfully spent time telling about how acupuncture was a powerful method for treating all sorts of conditions (not just painful ones). He explained how it helped mental & emotional issues as well. By the time I got out of car the seed had planted!
Over the next year or so I spent time reading about acupuncture, having acupuncture treatment (to prevent migraines which had always plagued me) arranging meetings with acupuncturists & later researching the best methods of training to become an acupuncturist. In 1992 I started my 3 year training under the highly respected Professor Worsley who was a pioneer for acupuncture in the UK. In 1995 myself & another acupuncturist became qualified and (needing somewhere to practise from) set up 'Bristol Natural Health Service' (BNHS) in a building quite close to the current location. We managed it together for 6 years.
In 2001 I took over the sole responsibility for BNHS and moved us to the clinic's current location where we were able to create an environment that could be tailored to meet our requirements. Right from the start I have been greatly supported by a very capable and enthusiastic team of receptionists who have a clear understanding and long standing commitment to our clients , patients and to complementary medicine as a whole.
My Experience
I have been practising acupuncture full time since 1995. I trained for 3 years & qualified as an acupuncturist at 'The College of Traditional Acupuncture' in Leamington Spa. This training was mainly in what is known as '5 element acupuncture'. Later I did a further 2 years training (part-time) at 'The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine' in Reading. This second course was taken to give me training in the other main school of acupuncture known as TCM. In my practice I regularly use both and, like many practitioners who have trained in both, find this integrated approach has the most potential for success in the treatment room.
I feel immensely fortunate and privileged to do the work I do and have never tired of seeing patients, new or old.
I am a lucky enough to be a father of two children. In my spare time I enjoy sailing, playing the guitar, seeing friends and getting away.
