Herbal Medicine
Why Use Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine combines the study and use of traditional plant remedies with medical science. It is a very comprehensive system and still the major form of medical treatment worldwide. Herbalists treat all age groups, helping both long term and acute ailments. Herbal medicine is effective in all kinds of health problems, especially skin disorders, digestive problems, arthritis, hormonal imbalances, circulatory and breathing problems, stress related illness etc. Visiting A Medical Herbalist At the first visit a medical herbalist will spend at least one hour taking a detailed and confidential case history to establish where underlying imbalances may cause ill health. After time is taken to discuss positive diet and lifestyle changes an individual herbal remedy is prescribed and dispensed. At following visits progress is reviewed and remedies adjusted accordingly. A course of herbal medicine continues for several weeks to months, allowing deep changes in functioning and wellbeing to take place. Herbal medicines combined and prescribed by a herbalist for an individual are more deeply effective than over the counter "one size fits all" herbal remedies. The long training in plants and people enables the practitioner to combine herbs appropriately. Herbalists do not diagnose or prescribe without an appointment. Herbal medicine has a less aggressive action than some conventional medicines. Rather it improves our health by removing obstacles to our wellbeing and increases vitality. While it is impossible to guarantee absolute safety with anything, be it medicine or food, the safety record of herbal medicine is excellent. However herbal remedies can be robust in their action and should always be treated with respect.
