McTimoney Chiropractic uses low force adjustments because it is based on high levels of accuracy, dexterity and speed. It is suitable for all age groups. A McTimoney trained chiropractor will assess and adjust the whole body, aiming to address any underlying cause(s) of your symptoms.
WHY HAVE THIS CARE? Adjusting the skeleton can help to improve posture. A variety of lifestyle and circumstantial factors can influence the alignment of the skeleton. These factors are not necessarily traumatic in origin. Two commonly seen new patient presentations are routine repetitive postural habits such as leg crossing and working practices such as computer use. Other common causes of postural misalignment can include heavy manual work, one sided sports activities, minor strains, accidents, pregnancy and childbirth. Improving the alignment of the skeleton can help to reduce and relieve pain and discomfort and also aims to improve mobility. THE CHIROPRACTOR AT BNHS A McTimoney trained Chiropractor works at BNHS. She has been practising for over 20 years. SUITABLE SYMPTOM PRESENTATIONS Back, neck and shoulder pain of mechanical origin. Stiff achy joints. Muscular aches. Symptoms arising from soft tissue strains. VERY SEVERE TRAUMAS It is both unsuitable and inappropriate to book this type of care after any very heavy fall as you may have sustained a fracture. This first requires a priority visit to your GP or the emergency health care services for assessment, advice and their treatment if needed. FREE SPINAL CHECKS Free, 15 minute spinal checks are always available by appointment. This involves a postural check and the opportunity to ask any questions you may have on a more personal basis. It will enable a far more informed choice to be made about this type of care. A spinal check does not involve any formal health history taking, chiropractic adjustment or future obligation to attend for care. REFERRALS It is sometimes necessary to refer a case to a GP or other health care professional if progress is not as expected. Teamwork is advised as appropriate if this is beneficial to everyone concerned. CARE SESSIONS AND PLANS Your first visit initially involves taking a detailed medical and health history to assess both your past and present health status and the nature of your presenting symptoms. Your care plan will then be discussed before care begins. This visit also includes your first "hands on" adjustments. You will be invited to attend for one follow up visit usually after a week. Follow up care depends on the individual concerned. It is reasonable to expect that older people and those attending with longer standing health problems generally require more visits. Your plan will be designed around your own individual response and progress. There is no "standard" or "average" response to care. However it is reasonable to expect 2-4 visits in total. DRESS CODE It will be necessary to remove tight clothing from around the waist and neck plus shoes and spectacles before chiropractic adjustment. It is not usually necessary to undress. If this proves to be helpful, gowns are always available. POST CARE ADVICE To obtain the best benefit after your appointment it is generally advisable to: * avoid very heavy lifting and twisting activities for 24-36 hours following care. * drink some extra water during this time. Small quantities regularly are beneficial. * be aware of your posture. Routine postural habits may need addressing on a longer term basis. Postural changes are commonly experienced after chiropractic care. * note any symptom changes as this is very useful to report back to your chiropractor on your next visit to enable good teamwork. MAINTENANCE CARE Many patients find that they benefit from chiropractic maintenance care and can chose to attend in this way at future intervals after their initial care plan is complete. This would be following prior discussion and suitable for the individual concerned. ACCESSIBLE CHIROPRACTIC CARE There is an accessible room available if you have difficulties with stairs for any reason. It also accommodates most wheelchairs. If you require this facility, please be sure to discuss your needs with the receptionists when making a booking. ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS?
